How to submit
to us your stories and photos.
We do our text writing in Microsoft
Word, if you do not have Word but have Microsoft Works you can
submit to the editor those documents if the staff writer can
not open your document. Email all documents as an email attachment.
Do not embed photo's into Word documents. If you wish to tell
us where you wish a photo to appear place this in the text of
the document <insert
jpg boat1 here> and high
lite this in red. Use font style "Arial" font size
"10" in writing your text document. Please check
your spelling and grammer before sending your story. We will
format this document for use in HTML. Do not send HTML documents
to us as we will not use them.
To submit photos to us for use in the
Gaff Rig we accept and use only two formats. Email these as an
attachment. The best format is .jpg or .jpeg files. Second is
.gif files. Keep the size of the photo in either format to less
than 450 pixels in width. We ask this to keep file sizes down
and we we only publish photos that we resize to less than 300
pixels on the Gaff Rig. We will crop and resize the photos as
we feel the need. Please try to send good quality photos to us
only. Title your photos with your last name [in lower case] and
a number such as [ hagan2 ] this will allow us to keep track
of the hundreds of photo's and graphics we will have on file.
A few tips on taking pictures of your
boat. Try not to have a busy background setting when taking a
photo. We know this may be difficult when it is in the shop,
we don't publish photo's of boats under construction unless they
are used as examples in an article. When outside and taking photos
of your boat have the sun behind you for better lighting. Use
film speeds of less than 200. Try not to have other boats in
the background, also try not to have telephone poles or hanging
wires there either. Also trees, these will difuse the look of
the photo and any rigging you have up. Try to photo your boat
in the water both sailing and at the dock. Try to keep the boat
in the center of the photo and as large as possible.
We hope this info will help you prepare stories
or articles for our use in the Gaff Rig.
